First Steps in Learning

A nurturing environment for your little one

Our Creche is a fantastic place for your child to take his or her first steps on the educational ladder and to learn how to interact with other children in a safe, nurturing space. We believe in a holistic approach to the teaching of young children, an approach that encompasses all their needs at this crucial early stage of their development.

At Franciscan Catholic Nursery & Primary School, we understand that the first years of a child's life are formative. Our Creche programme is designed to provide a loving, stimulating environment where children can explore, learn, and grow in confidence while being introduced to Catholic values in age-appropriate ways.

Our dedicated caregivers are trained in early childhood development and are committed to providing individualized attention to each child, ensuring their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs are met.

Creche

1:8 Teacher to Child Ratio

We guarantee a maximum caregiver/pupil ratio of 1:8. This enables us to provide plenty of encouragement and support to your child at all times, ensuring each child receives the attention they need to thrive.

Loving Care

Our caregivers create a warm, loving environment where children feel secure and valued. This emotional security is the foundation for all learning and development that takes place in our Creche.

Developmental Focus

Our programme is designed to support all areas of early development: physical, cognitive, language, social-emotional, and spiritual, with activities tailored to each child's developmental stage.

Faith Foundation

Even at this young age, we begin to introduce children to Catholic values and traditions through simple prayers, songs, and stories that lay the foundation for spiritual growth.

Learning Through Play

How we engage your child's natural curiosity

Children at this age show endless energy and curiosity. We aim to channel this appropriately through carefully designed activities that support development across all domains.

Water Play

Encourages exploration of mathematical concepts such as full, empty, half full, heavy, and light. Water play also develops fine motor skills and introduces basic scientific concepts.

Construction Play

Building with blocks and simple junk modeling helps develop spatial awareness, counting skills, and problem-solving abilities while strengthening fine motor coordination.

Creative Expression

Children experiment with a range of collage materials, finger painting, and simple art activities that develop self-expression, color recognition, and fine motor skills.

Music & Movement

Simple songs, rhythm activities, and movement games help develop listening skills, coordination, and language while providing a joyful sensory experience.

Potty Training

When developmentally appropriate, we support potty training in partnership with parents. This important milestone helps children develop independence and confidence.

Social Interaction

Guided play with peers helps develop crucial social skills like sharing, taking turns, and building relationships, laying the foundation for healthy interpersonal connections.

Early Literacy

We introduce children to books, stories, and simple words using the Jolly Phonics methodology, fostering a love of reading and building pre-literacy skills.

Faith Development

Age-appropriate religious education through simple prayers, religious songs, and stories that introduce Catholic values and traditions in a gentle, loving way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our Creche programme

What is the minimum age for enrollment in the Creche programme?

Children can join our Creche programme once they are able to walk confidently, typically around 12 months of age. We accept children up to 2 years of age in this programme.

What is the teacher-to-child ratio in the Creche?

We maintain a maximum ratio of 1:8 (one caregiver to eight children) to ensure each child receives the attention and care they need. In practice, our ratios are often even lower.

What should my child bring to Creche each day?

Parents should provide:

  • A change of clothes (or two)
  • Diapers and wipes
  • Comfort item (if needed)
  • Labeled water bottle
  • Sunscreen (when appropriate)
  • Any necessary medications with proper documentation

All items should be clearly labeled with your child's name.

How do you handle feeding and nap times?

We provide nutritious snacks and lunch prepared in our school kitchen. For infants with specific dietary needs, parents may provide food from home. Nap times are scheduled after lunch, but we're flexible to accommodate individual children's needs and routines.

How do you approach potty training?

We work in partnership with parents on potty training when your child shows signs of readiness. Consistency between home and school is key to success. Our caregivers are experienced in supporting children through this important milestone.

How do you incorporate Catholic faith into the Creche programme?

We introduce faith in age-appropriate ways through simple prayers before meals and nap time, religious songs, and stories about God's love. Our approach is gentle and focused on creating a foundation of love, kindness, and gratitude.
